12:00 TUESDAY – Bi-Weekly Market Report #248 – 10/15/24
STOCK MARKET RATING (THE BIG PICTURE) … 4.0 (1 - 4 is bearish, 5 is neutral, 6 - 9 is bullish). I will hang with this cautious rating even though the market has been quite strong lately, out of an abundance of caution. Generally, risks outweigh opportunities. I am not universally dumping stocks, but I'm considering selective pruning. I've found a couple of stocks that gave my clients a very nice, significant short-term return.
Some recent macroeconomic news seems to show that the economy is slipping downward. We are definitely in a rate-cutting cycle, which is good news for consumers and for the markets. I’m staying fully invested even though I’m very wary. Overall business circumstances don't yet indicate it is time to dump stocks. On the contrary, there are strong reasons to buy, including lower yields on bonds and treasuries.
Volatility should improve: i) if interest rate cuts continue, and ii) as long as nation-state conflicts moderate. The elections are still the big unknown, but it appears Trump is pulling away from Harris, and the market thinks Trump will win.
I stand ready to make portfolio changes should anything above prove wrong or as circumstances of all types change. Staying vigilant in these uncertain times is paramount.
