12:00 TUESDAY – Investing Insights #257 – 04/01/25

STOCK MARKET RATING (THE BIG PICTURE) … 5.0 (1 - 4 is bearish, 5 is neutral, 6 - 9 is bullish).
It seems to me that the market might be trying to stabilize. Early Monday morning, the DJIA was down about 420 points, yet closed up about 420 points. Today, the market started down because of a poor ISM-Manufacturing report, but is currently regaining lost ground, although the day is not over yet.
The market seems very optimistic that some resolution in tariffs will occur by tomorrow’s deadline, or the day after, or perhaps before the end of the month. In addition, in my view, there seems to be optimism about no war against Israel or the US being started by Russia or Iran.
The relationship with China is relatively quiet.
Significant worries abound, and daily market action is jumpy and schizophrenic. The list of items includes retaliatory tariffs, slow economic growth, increasing inflation rates, postponed reductions in interest rates, slower earnings, lost jobs, congressional issues, and court cases challenging expense reductions in government agencies.
REPEAT FROM MY LAST LETTER … The interplay between battles amongst the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, where the administration has won and lost, creates more investor uncertainty. When will we come together as a nation and rise above all the rest? Common sense – not constantly raising the Federal debt – must rule the day.
